Vintage lawsuit guitar, a rare solid-body electric made by one of the most-respected names in acoustic guitars
This is a very high-end copy of a Gibson Explorer, it was so nice that Gibson threatened Takamine with a lawsuit and they stopped making electric guitars altogether, from what I've been able to dig up.
The pickups look like Seymour Duncans and it's a possibility, they made the pups in the old Ibanez guitars. On top of that, this model also features neck-thru construction. Plays like butter too.
If you find one of these in even decent shape, you should pick it up, they generally go for between $500-$800 on most auction sites.
Thanks for looking, more high-resolution pictures here.
i got one of these guitars at a yard sale for 250$ a few years back! its a great guitar the case broke though :( it needs a little work but its still a great guitar its the same colour as the picture above!
ReplyDeleteHi Sean, thanks for visiting. These really are nice guitars. A new axe of the same quality would cost at least $1000. This one and the 1985 Ibanez Roadstar II that I've posted here a few months back are both incredible players.
ReplyDeletehey ive got a takmine gx-100T but it doesnt look like that one tho it looks like a Takmine gx 200
ReplyDeleteHi Joel,
ReplyDeleteI just looked up the model you've listed above and it looks more like a Les Paul/PRS style guitar. From the photos I saw, it's also a neck-thru model, is that correct?
i have a gx 100 t that is a bone or creme color. wish i knoew the year
ReplyDeleteHi Robert, the serial number on this particular guitar was printed on a decal that was stuck to the inside of one of the back plates. The SN should begin with 85 or 86.
Deletemy mom and dad bought me a gx 100t at a pawn shop for 80 dollars in 1987 or 88 and I still have it and love it.
ReplyDeleteI just picked up a blue burst GX100T on offer up for $100. Needed some TLC,but I breathed life back into her. My 13 y/o daughter uses it in her band. Great guitar!
ReplyDeleteI have a Takamine GX-100 guitar that I purchased in 1983 at age 15. It is red and black burst. It still looks and plays like brand new. Takamine only made this guitar from 1983 to 1985 before Gibson threatened to sue them. The GX-100 has a Mohogany body and neck with a Rosewood fretboard. The pickups are very hot DiMarzzios with ceramic magnets. The neck is set-in, but looks like a neck-through style. The neck is also very thin and fast like an Ibanez or Jackson. This guitar plays so nice that there are times that I would rather play it over my Les Paul or Strat. The action is very fast. If you can find one of these rare Takamine Electrics buy it. It will be one of the best guitars you will ever play.
